What you should do to crack the UPSC Civil Service Exams ?
Now is the right time to start your preparation for the Civil Service Examination to be written in 2015. A few things to be kept in mind while preparing for the MOTHER of all examinations in India are:
1. Plan your daily routine by ensuring a targeted duration only dedicated towards preparation of this exam.
2. Don't deviate from the above point as we all know irregularities causes laziness which is not good for aspiring civil service officers.
3. Controlled use of internet for social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, or even Whatsapp (They eat a lot of your valuable time).
4. Wise use of Internet to gather information regarding important political, social, international or economic events happening in India and the World.
5. Do not just bluntly read any book. First confirm whether the book is apt for civil service preparation, only then carry on reading it ANALYTICALLY.
6. Reading of newspapers regularly (The Hindu & Economic Times is recommended). Headlines, Editorial, International and business news must be covered. Don't waste time on Bollywood and Hollywood.
7. Don't get bored easily. Boredom while preparing for this exam might prove to be disastrous.
8. Enjoy every moment of your preparation. Accept all challenges and try accomplishing it with a SMILE.
9. Don't count the number of hours you spend in preparation per day. If you're really dedicated then I don't think that the amount of time spent will really matter. What will matter more is that are you sticking to your plans and strategies and living upto your plans.
10. DON'T read too many books. Read only the prescribed books and magazines and be thorough in it.
11. The civil Service exams has three levels, the Prelims (objective type) , the Mains (Theory) and finally the Personality test. So preparation only for the one of these levels won't be sufficient. Make sure you are simultaneously preparing for all these levels which requires a lot of writing practice, reading skills, mock interviews, etc.
12. Make notes of the current events you come across in newspapers and informative websites, and even gather newspaper cutouts which you feel are important.
13. Many people might demotivate you as this exam requires a very high level of intellect and they might be of the notion that you are not capable of preparing for this exam. My dear friends, this is the time to prove yourself by being SELF-MOTIVATED at all times and have a clear vision and goal and have faith in the Almighty.
14. Eat good food which is well cooked, fruits and vegetables. Avoid Junk or fast food as much as possible because one needs to be fit and healthy to sustain the pressure which arises for preparing these kinds of examination.
I hope these points help all the aspiring Civil service officers to a large extent. The country needs young and talented minds like you to achieve the TITLE of a "Developed" Nation.

Sit back and relax - Equally important
Its true that a student who aspires for civil service has to go through rigorous reading sessions, not for a day or two, but atleast for a year on a continuous basis. Right from making strategies for study, to the in depth understanding of various concepts, one needs to devote himself/ herself in order to be prepared for the most challenging public examination in India. There will be times when you get demotivated and frustrated by the vast syllabus which is needed to be covered for the civil service examination. Being patient under such circumstances is very much required in order to tackle with such a level of stress.
So to all the candidates aspiring for this exam, do keep in mind that it is equally important to Sit Back and Relax for a while apart from sticking to your plan and strategies while preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations. Getting the required rest is absolutely necessary and is a human requirement. Its acts as a refreshing agent, post which you can continue with the regular preparation with all the concentration.

Taking up civil services was a remarkable decision I took while I was just 18. With all innocence, I dreamt to be an IAS officer at a very young age with all the passion I had towards learning, be it any subject. I have finished my Graduation in Bcom from Christ University, Bangalore a few months back and now it gives me immense pleasure to begin my journey through intense training and preparation for the UPSC- prelim examinations to be held in 2015. With all the demotivating comments by many relatives, friends and others that cracking the civil service exams isn't any cakewalk, with people saying I do not have the personality to be a civil service officer, etc, etc, etc.., I believe in being Self Motivated, not paying much attention to anyone who lets me down. To all the civil service aspirants out there, it takes a brave heart and mind even to take up the civil service exams, and if you have decided to do it, then no stepping back unless and until you've successfully cleared all the levels. THINK BIG. DREAM BIG. You are sure to go a long way.
Cheers to all the civil service aspirants and wishing you a very bright future ahead.
